Top Clubs In Africa Ranked; Kotoko Drop Two Places, Hearts of Oak Climb Up In Latest Rankings
Asante Kotoko Sporting Club is the only Ghanaian side ranked in the top 50 clubs in Africa despite dropping two places as North Africans giants remain firmly and literally at the pinnacle of the continent.
According to FootballDataBase’s quarterly ranking report, record eight-time champions Al Ahly top the standings ahead of rivals Zamalek who sit second.
One-time CAF Champions League winner, Mamelodi Sundowns have made progress from fourth to the third position with five-time champions league and two-time Confederation Cup Congolese winners, TP Mazembe and Tunisian giants Esperance sitting fourth and fifth respectively.
With the exception of TP Mazembe and Sundowns and AS Vita Club, the top 10 features seven clubs from North Africa.
Asante Kotoko is the highest-ranked Ghanaian side, who are 35th on the rankings after dropping two places.
The Porcupines are followed by AshantiGold who have dropped from 64th to 65th and then Ghananian champions Hearts of Oak who have climbed from 90th to 76th on the continent.
Aduana Stars are 79th on the continent after moving from 94th with Medeama dropping from 93rd to 98th on the African continent. Berekum Chelsea have also moved from 106 to 114th position.
Division club Hearts of Lions are lying in the 157th position in the rankings after dropping from 149 with Premier League side Legon Cities occupying 204th position after moving from 183 in the previous rankings.
Another lower-tier side New Edubiase are on the 216th position whilst Ebusua Dwarfs are ranked 222 ranked club in Africa after dropping one place down.
