The Director-General for the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi has disclosed to Kumasi 104.1 FM in an interview that the new Sports Minister Hon Mustapha Yussif will visit the ongoing renovation work at Baba Yara and commission it soon.
The Baba Yara Stadium has been under renovation since February 2020.
However, Baba Yara will soon be commissioned for football activities to commence following the current state of the grass which was planted months ago and almost ready for use, Prof. Twumasi hinted.
“The most needed work at the stadium is almost complete, we’re just waiting for approval from the green grass technology so football games can commence.”
“I have a meeting with the Sports Minister next week, he (the minister) will visit all projects across the country which include the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and commission it for football to be enjoyed once again” he added.
The base made up of bitumen is being cast and awaiting final laying of the track materials (8-lane Olympic standard tracks). Already, pitch drainage system and grassing, seats, floodlight, scoreboard are done and it’s likely Kotoko will return ‘home’ possibly at the end of April.
