The Royal Palace of His Royal Highness, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has thrown the whole of his kingdom into a state of mourning after announcing the death of one of his hardworking royals.
A statement released by Nana Kwame Aboagye Mensa, the personal assistant to the Chief of Staff at Manhyia indicated that the Great Hiahene of the King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu has passed on to eternal Glory.
He was once an astute Banker who contributed all his effort in building the Great Asante Kingdom and was part of the Asante Kotoko team in the 1950s to the 60s.
It’s however unclear what actually caused the demise of the 89 years old man.
Manhyia Palace sent words of encouragement and sympathy to the affected family and the entire Ashanti kingdom.
The late Oheneba Agyemang Atweneboanda as he was called by tradition succeeded his uncle Oheneba Mensa Bonsu who was also the uncle of Otumfour Osei Tutu.
A statement from the Manhyia Palace confirmed the sad news of the former traditional leader, international banker, diplomat and sportsman.
“A distinguished international banker, diplomat, and sportsman, Oheneba Atweneboanda retired as an Executive Director of the African Development Bank before his enstoolment.
“He was an accomplished footballer in his youth, playing for many years for Asante Kotoko Sporting Club alongside his brother, the late Asebi Boakye.
“Oheneba Atwenebroanda succeeded the late Oheneba Mensah Bonsu, the celebrated uncle of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, in 1998”.
