Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to improve on the branding of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The striker in an interview with Kotoko Express App was delighted with the standard of play in the country’s elite league but said its image must improve to serve as a compliment.
Patronage of the local league has dropped in recent years as Ghanaian football fans crave for European leagues.
While some people think that the quality of play is not attractive, others also say that the league does not arouse their interest, and Kwame Poku seems to side with the latter.
“I do not agree to the notion that Ghanaian players or clubs do not play beautiful football,” said the striker. “The players here are very good. It is the league that needs to improve in branding. Our games are nice and competitive and can be compared to a lot of countries in and out of Africa. Authorities only need to find a way to package the league well.”
Asked how that should be done, Kwame Opoku said: “There are people who are trained in that field. We see a lot of them doing a lot of work for corporate institutions. We need to get such people to help.”
