According to Kumasi-based Kessben FM, Asante Kotoko are leading the way to sign former Ashantigold captain Shafiu Mumuni after his representatives assured head coach Maxwell Konadu to release their client to the Reds.
The Porcupines are considering signing the Black Stars B captain on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract with the Obuasi-based club.
The 24-year-old has reportedly attracted the interest of many top European outfits, including a trial with Romain giants CFR Cluj earlier this year. However, Kotoko are understood to have made the first step by reaching an agreement with the player’s representatives who have given the head coach their word.
The centre-forward registered one goal in four appearances for the Miners in the truncated Ghana premier league season.
Meanwhile, the life patron of Asante Kotoko, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has currently banned the club from buying any more players for the next one whole season.
However, multiple reports in the media indicate that the Board of Directors together with the head coach will be in Manhyia over the weekend to plead with Asantehene to allow them to make some few purchases to beef up the squad ahead of the CAF Champions League campaign as well as the Ghana premier league season which is expected to kick off in October.
