FEATURE: Why Mubarik Yusif Can Be Hero At Asante Kotoko
Asante Kotoko SC recently strengthened the depth of their team with the acquisition of Mubarik Yusif. The former Liberty Professionals and Ashanti Gold centre-back’s inclusion in the Porcupine Warriors’ set up will be an advantage to the team because of what he will bring to bear says kickgh.com’s Godfred Budu Yeboah.
With the new football season a little over a month away, Ghanaian football administrators, and technical handlers are in their market scouring for talents to augment the depth of their squad. Asante Kotoko is no exception.
The Kumasi club is preparing to participate in the CAF Champions League preliminary stage.
There is therefore the need to strengthen the team and make it a force to reckon with. The club has thus far made five acquisitions with Yusif being one of them. Mubarik Yusif’s style would suit trainer Maxwell Konadu’s tactics and bring some much needed balance to the defence and midfield department of the club.
Touted as one of the best players in the Ghanaian topflight, he can comfortably and reliably play as a centre back and as a defensive midfielder. The versatility of his prowess has won him the affection and admiration of not only his fans but neutral football fans alike.
As a centre-back, he is touted as one of the best ball-playing centre-back in the division. He operates in an environment where his ball work is combined with the grit of Jaap Stam. He is strong, quick and good in the air and is adept to using his body to shield the ball away from danger and his speed ensures he can make powerful recovery tackles when required and also a good passer of the ball.
Yusif’s resolve is matched by his acute sensibility in defensive situations. His awareness of when to close down and strip the ball from opponents is impressive.
On the ball, he’s comfortable with both feet, equally capable of a fast-paced delivery into his centre-forward or playing a diagonal cross-field pass to a winger. His anticipation and reading of the game gives him an excellent interception rate.
As a defensive midfielder, he is blessed with an ability to change direction with almost effortless ease, and his balance on the ball- combined with a great awareness of what’s around him- makes him a constant threat.
At 24, He shows an incredible maturity for a player of his age and has the mind and calmness of an experienced international player. Creative and dynamic at the same time with good ball control, He possesses all the ingredients to become a complete and quality player for Maxwell Konadu and the Kotoko family.
Mubarik Yusif has been an admirer of the Porcupine Warriors for a very long time and always harboured some hope of donning the famous red colours. “There is no bigger honour and dream in football than wearing the colours of your boyhood club and protecting ‘her’ image. It’s everything.” He told kickgh.com
The hardworking player believes he has all the necessary qualities to be an integral member of the side and pray Maxwell Konadu grants him the rare opportunity to prove his mettle. “My status has changed now. Before I was an amateur,” explained Yusif, who wants to be in the good books of the Kotoko gaffer.” I am more mature now and ready to represent Kotoko at the highest level.”
Mubarik Yusif’s character is a rare one in modern football. Driven by the desire to improve but not hindered by the fear of failure, he’s already good.
Now, he has the chance to be outstanding and that alone should excite the Asante Kotoko family and Ghanaian football fraternity at large.
