Asante Kotoko SC held FC Nouadhibou to a 1-1 stalemate in Mauritania on Sunday in the CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg fixture .
Despite the Mauritanian wanting an advantage in the first leg before they travel to Ghana for the second leg next week, the Porcupines were ahead of the Oranges in the game.
Kotoko opened the scoring in the 5th minute through Osman Ibrahim who fed on Emmanuel Gyamfi’s pass on the edge of the penalty box and buried it in the right bottom corner.
The hosts found the equalizer through the spot in the 22nd minute after a ball had hit the belly of Yusif Mubarik but the referee whistled for a penalty.
The Fabulous lads had better of the exchanges in the second half but failed to connect all the opportunities that came their way.
Evans Adomako hit a a shot from the edge of the box which could have given the Reds the winner in the dying embers of the game but Nouadhibou goalkeeper was equal to the task to save his side.
Asante Kotoko SC will host FC Nouadhibou at the Accra Sports stadium next weekend for the second leg of the tie.
The winner of the game will meet either Ugandan side, Vipers or Sudan’s Al Hilal in the next round of the competition.
