Bashir Hayford Names Asante Kotoko As Premier League Title Favourites
Legon Cities coach Bashir Hayford has named Asante Kotoko the favourites to win this season’s Premier League title.
The Porcupines are well in the hunt after a sustained run of positive results in recent weeks. A new-found defensive solidity combined with attacking nous has seen the club soar up the standings.
With the side regularly stacking up wins since the start of the second round, the fact that we feature in conversations for the title is no surprise.
Mariano Barreto’s side inflicted a 1-0 win over Bashir Hayford’s Legon Cities at the Accra Sports Stadium in matchday 22 of the Ghana Premier League on Saturday.
Augustine Okrah’s first-half strike was enough for the Kumasi based club to win all three points at way.
Speaking after the game, the former Kotoko coach indicated his former employers stand a chance of winning the league but believe other clubs in the top three can also win it.
“Yes checking from the league table, you could see the gap is close so any team that keep their composure well can win the league”
“Kotoko is favourite but other teams in the first three can also win it” he said.
Hayford believes the Reds’ squad depth combined with the team gelling well will bode well for their hopes of winning the big prize.
Asante Kotoko are currently second on the league log, a point behind first-placed Medeama after 22 games. The Porcupines next host fourth-placed Dreams FC at the Len Clay Stadium.
