The playing body of Asante Kotoko have hilariously given a new byname to talented youngster Isaac Oppong.
Oppong’s name has been on the lips of many local football enthusiasts, especially Kotoko fans after his blistering start to life in Kumasi.
The 18-year-old has now been involved in six goals, more than any player in the top-flight. He has scored three and assisted two.
The technically gifted Oppong has been likened to Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar and thus bears the nickname ‘Sunyani Neymar’ which is known by everyone.
However, his teammates have hysterically come out with a new nickname for the youngster. The players now call him ‘Winning Bonus’ which means with Oppong on the pitch, their winning bonus is always secured.
The playing body receives GHS 4,000 from their sponsors, Hisense for every game they win in the Ghana Premier League.
Asante Kotoko have now won their first four matches in the league and will face Karela United next at the CAM Park on Sunday in a matchday five encounter and Oppong is expected to play an influential role in the game.
Oppong was scouted from the Sunyani zone of the Ghana Division Two League where he scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists in 17 games for Bectero Sassana FC who were beaten in the last hurdle to the promotional playoff final.
