Asante Kotoko, Ashantigold To Represent Ghana In Africa Next Season

Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold will represent Ghana in next season’s CAF’ inter-club competitions next season.

This decision comes after the Executive Committee of the Ghana FA met on Tuesday to cancel of the 2019/2020 football season.

The Ghana football season has been cancelled as a result of the crisis presented by the Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease.

Ghana became the latest African country to cancel their leagues due to the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday.

The decision taken after a lengthy meeting of the Executive Council on Tuesday, says that there will be no promotions or demotions.

The Porcupines, who won last season’s Normalisation Committee Tier One Cup, as a result, gets the automatic qualification into the continent’s elite inter-club championship.

Ashgold, who also won the Tier Two Cup, will represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup competition.

“The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has taken a decision to cancel the 2019/2020 football season following a marathon meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at the GFA Secretariat in Accra. Details soon,” a GFA statement said today.

In an interview with Accra-based Angel FM this evening, Communications Director for the Ghana FA, Henry Asante Twum has shared that due to the inability to complete the season, the body will present Asante Kotoko and AshGold to represent the country in the CAF Champions League and the Confederations Cup respectively.

The two Ghana Premier League clubs represented the West African country in Africa last season after winning the tier 1 and tier 2 of the Normalization Committee Special Competition.
