Amankona Scores First Goal For Kotoko As Porcupines Draw With Liwa FC In Second Preseason Game

Asante Kotoko conceded late to draw with Liwa FC in their second preseason game on Sunday evening.

The friendly match held at Shababal Ahli Stadium, Dubai offered coach Prosper Narteh Ogum to gauge the level his team has reached after close to a month of preparations for the 2021/22 season.

Kotoko, who stepped things up with a two-week training camp in Dubai, dominated the game from the start and got the ideal result to boost their confidence.

Coach Narteh Ogum had 20 players fully fit for the game and handed starting berth to four new boys – Richmond Lamptey, Dickson Afoakwa, Stephen Amankona and Joseph Amoako.

The regular faces that completed the starting line-up included Razak Abalora, Christopher Nettey, captain Ganiyu Ismail, Yusif Mubarik, Patrick Asmah, Mudasiru Salifu and Fabio Gama.

The Porcupines commenced the game on a good note with brilliant passes in the middle as it was bossed by Mudasiru Salifu and Richmond Lamptey.

Kotoko shot into the lead in the 41st-minute after new boy Stephen Amankona fetched his first goal for the club in his first start to end the first half.

After the recess, Kotoko continued their impressive performance as displayed in the first half as they launched a fearsome attack which gave the home side headache.

Prosper Narteh’s men were unlucky upfront with the few chances created in the second department of the game as Maxwell Agyemang’s goal was ruled offside in the 76th-minute.

Kotoko proved their strength on the flanks as Isaac Oppong and Joseph Amoako kept dazzling the back line of the Dubai side but failed to double their lead.

Kotoko could not hold on to their solitary lead as Liwa FC equalized few seconds to end the game.

Asante Kotoko will play their last game on Wednesday, October 20 before ending their two-week Dubai training camp.

The team will be back home on the 22nd, exactly one week to the commencement of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.
