Al Hilal Beat Asante Kotoko In First Preseason Friendly – As It Happened

Asante Kotoko lost their first preseason friendly to UAE second tier side, Al Hilal United on Thursday morning.

The Porcupines have been busy in the transfer window and after signing the likes of Richard Boadu, Lamptey, Afoakwa and the likes in this window, coach Prosper Narteh Ogum will be hoping that they will fit into his philosophy ahead of the new season.

The match played at Al Hamriyah Sports and Culture Club in Sharjah, Dubai was Kotoko’s first since beginning preparations for the 2021/22 season about a month ago.

Prosper Narteh chose a strong starting XI for the beginning of the match with first choice goalkeeper Razak Abalora playing behind a back four of Christopher Nettey, Patrick Asmah, Ismail Ganiyu and Yusif Mubarik.

A midfield three of Richard Boadu, Emmanuel Keyekeh and Fabio Gama played with an attacking trio of Dickson Afoakwa, Clinton Opoku and Joseph Amoako.

Kotoko had a bright start to the first half as they dominated play in the first few minutes. With Al Hilal failing to settle, the Reds continued to grow in confidence and came close to scoring in the first 12 minutes but Afoakwa’s effort went wide.

Narteh’s men dominated most part of the game but unluckily conceded from Christopher Nettey’s own goal in the 50th-minute.

Asante Kotoko gained possession in the mid of the second half with hopes of levelling the score but their efforts went futile as the fixture ended in a 1-0 win in favor of the hosts.

Among the highlights: Patrick Asmah was active at left back, Gama looked engaged, Amoako was hustling all over the field, and Richard Boadu had a good first half, although with nothing to show for it.

The Kumasi-based club is currently in the Gulf country for a two-week preseason tour ahead of their 2021/22 season campaign.
